PROVINCIAL ROUNDUP: MANITOBA AND NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR

PROVINCIAL ROUNDUP:

MANITOBA AND NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR

Two provinces made news this week for very different reasons: Manitoba flagged a technical outage affecting its nomination database, while Newfoundland and Labrador issued its fourth selection round of September. Here's what happened in each.

Manitoba: MPNP Database Experiencing Technical Issues

On September 28, 2026, the Government of Manitoba announced that the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP) database is experiencing technical issues affecting several of its processing systems. According to the province's official notice, technical teams are actively working to resolve the disruption and restore full functionality, with further updates expected once normal operations resume.

This isn't unprecedented: The MPNP has posted similar technical-issue notices several times over the past two years, including outages in December 2024, June 2025, and October 2025 — each was eventually resolved without lasting impact on applicants' files, though Expression of Interest draws have occasionally been delayed until an outage cleared.

If you have an active MPNP application, an Expression of Interest profile, or are waiting on correspondence from the program, it's worth checking the MPNP's official announcements page directly for updates rather than assuming your specific file has been affected.

Newfoundland and Labrador: 41 Invitations in Fourth September Round

On September 25, 2026, Newfoundland and Labrador issued 41 Invitations to Apply, all under the Newfoundland and Labrador Provincial Nominee Program (NLPNP) — no Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) invitations were issued in this round. This was the province's 16th selection round of 2026 and its fourth in September alone, following NLPNP-only rounds on September 4 (97 invitations) and September 10 (36 invitations), and a mixed round on September 18 (61 NLPNP and 1 AIP invitation).

To date in 2026, Newfoundland and Labrador has invited 2,695 candidates — 2,300 through the NLPNP and 395 through the AIP — compared with 3,376 invited across all of 2025. For the year, the province has 2,854 total spaces allocated across both programs: 2,379 for the NLPNP and 475 for the AIP.

Worth noting for anyone recently nominated: since June 9, 2026, eligible base PNP nominees who have already submitted a permanent residence application can apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit without first waiting to receive an Acknowledgement of Receipt for that application — a change that can meaningfully shorten the gap between nomination and being able to work while your PR application is processed.

Provincial Programs Moving at Different Speeds

Are you tracking a Manitoba application and wondering if this week's technical issue affects your file, or watching Newfoundland and Labrador's selection pattern for your own Expression of Interest? Provincial programs don't always move predictably, and knowing what a disruption or a small draw actually means for your specific situation matters more than the headline number.

At Global Opportunities, we monitor these programs closely and help you understand exactly where your application or profile stands. Contact us today if you have questions about your file.
